EvaBlomqvist +Eva is currently a postdoc in the Semantic Eva is currently a postdoc in the Semantic Technologies Lab, at the research institute ISTC-CNR in Rome, Italy. The main topic of the postdoc research is methods for user centered selection and use of ontology design patterns in ontology engineering. Especially interesting is the matching between ontology requirements, e.g. Competency Questions, and patterns. User studies are being carried out in order to validate the patterns as such as well as the eXtreme Design method (a proposed methodology for pattern-based design). Other research interests include methods and tools for automatic ontology construction (Ontology Learning). Eva defended her Ph.D. thesis in April this year, at Linköping University. However, during her Ph.D. studies she was employed at the department for Electronic and Computer Engineering, at the School of Engineering of Jönköping University, and this is where the research was conducted in practice. Prof. Kurt Sandkuhl, Jönköping Univeristy, was the main supervisor and Prof. Henrik Eriksson, Linköping University, the assistant supervisor. Opponent for the defense was Prof. Enrico Motta of the Knowledge Media Institute at the Open University in Milton Keynes, UK. Since 2003 Eva holds a Master of Science in Computer Science and Engineering from Linköping University with Software Engineering as the major, and Security in Sensor Networks as subject for the Master’s Thesis. tworks as subject for the Master’s Thesis.

SergioConsoli +Sergio Consoli, Ph.D., is a Junior Researc Sergio Consoli, Ph.D., is a Junior Researcher within the Institute of Cognitive Sciences and Technologies (ISTC) at the National Research Council (CNR) since September 2013. In particular, he is affiliated with the Semantic Technology Laboratory (STLab) headed by Aldo Gangemi. He works under the supervision of Valentina Presutti on the project "Cloud interoperable platforms for smart-government" (PRISMA) in the context of the study and development of the Semantic Web. In particular his research activity focuses on the design and development of algorithms for knowledge pattern extraction from heterogeneous sources and on definition of methods and metrics for their validation. The goal is to build formalized patterns that emerge from collective knowledge existing on the Web, and to demonstrate that such patterns are effective as means for improving the automatic interpretation and the interaction with large-scale information and data sources (with particular focus on Web content). The developed algorithms will leverage and extend existing techniques of knowledge extraction. The effectiveness of extracted patterns will be evaluated with new evaluation metrics, as well as with the design and performance of user-based experimental studies in the area of social knowledge management for the Public Administration. Sergio's education and scientific experience fall in the areas of Computer Science, Software Engineering, Operational Research, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Knowledge Engineering, Automation and Control Science, Crisis and Disasters Management. He has a M.Sc. degree in Computer Engineering from University of Catania (Sicily, 2005) and a Ph.D. in Operational Research from Brunel University (London, 2008), where he was sponsored by the European Union Marie Curie project NET-ACE: Network Theory & Applications to Computing and Engineering.
