Aemoo: serendipitous exploration of Wikipedia

Aemoo is a tool for exploring Wikipedia knowledge in a twofold way.

Aemoo implements filtering strategies based on knowledge patterns, which have been extracted from the Wikipedia linking structure (Encyclopedic Knowledge Patterns, EKP). Given a Wikipedia entity, the tool shows a number of entities, grouped based on their types, which are linked from it. They represent the basic or core knowledge about that entity. Furthermore, each entity is associated with a set of curious, or serendipitous, information (curiosity link on the top of the page), which expresses unusual knowledge about that entity.

Serendipitous knowledge is presented in form of classified entities. While exploring knowledge about an entity and its links, users are provided with a textual description of such links i.e., motivating their presence. Aemoo also detects possible Twitter streams and Google news about an entity, and merges the knowledge that they convey with Wikipedia link-based knowledge. A paper on EKP presented at ISWC2011, and an extended abstract on Aemoo.
